Gardening Volunteer – Susan's Place

Time Commitment

  • 1–2 hours per week

  • Participation in one or two larger garden clean-up days each year

Position Overview

Gardening Volunteers play an important role in helping maintain a beautiful, welcoming, and well-cared-for outdoor space at Susan's Place. By assisting with the care of the lawn, gardens, and garden beds, volunteers help create an environment that residents can take pride in and enjoy throughout the year.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, and is comfortable completing light physical tasks independently or as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plant flowers, vegetables, and other plants in garden beds

  • Weed and maintain garden beds and landscaped areas

  • Mow and care for the lawn as needed

  • Harvest fruits, vegetables, and herbs from the garden

  • Water plants and garden beds during volunteer shifts

  • Assist with seasonal garden clean-up and maintenance projects

  • Help maintain a safe, tidy, and welcoming outdoor environment

Skills & Qualities

  • Enjoyment of gardening and working outdoors

  • Ability to work independently and follow direction when needed

  • Reliable and able to commit coming in weekly the schedule can be flexible within Monday to Friday 8am - 4 pm. 

  • Comfortable performing light to moderate physical tasks, including bending, lifting, kneeling  and standing
