Kitchen Support Volunteer - Anawim House

Time Commitment:

  • 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

  • Commitment to a consistent schedule, ideally once per week

Position Overview

Kitchen Support Volunteers play an important role in creating a welcoming, respectful, and nourishing environment at Anawim House. Working alongside staff and program participants, volunteers assist with the preparation and service of breakfast and lunch for community members, while helping maintain a clean and supportive kitchen space.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working as part of a team, is comfortable in a community‑based setting, and values relationship‑building through shared meals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support staff and program participants with preparing and serving breakfast and lunch

  • Assist with light food preparation (chopping, plating, basic cooking tasks as directed)

  • Help with dishwashing, cleaning, and general kitchen upkeep

  • Chat with and welcome guests, helping create a friendly and inclusive atmosphere

  • Follow food safety and kitchen hygiene practices

  • Work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences

Skills & Qualities

  • Friendly, patient, and respectful interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and program participants

  • Comfortable in a busy, community kitchen environment

  • Reliable and able to commit to a regular volunteer shift

  • Ability to follow direction and communicate clearly

Requirements

  • Physically able to stand for periods of time and perform light kitchen duties
